We call it stand up surfing.
A shop built by people who ride
Stand up paddling arrived in Southern California and immediately split in two: the flat water crowd and the people who wanted to ride waves. We went the second way. Almost everything on our floor is chosen with wave riding in mind — shorter, livelier shapes, blades sized for quick acceleration, leashes and fins that hold up in real surf.
That focus is the whole reason to shop somewhere independent. We don't carry every board made; we carry the ones we've ridden, in the sizes that work for people who paddle here. If a shape isn't right for you, we'll say so, even when we have it in stock.
We've also stayed small on purpose. There's usually one or two of us in the shop, which means the person who sizes your board is the person who'll answer the phone when you have a question about it three months later.

What you get from buying here
Anyone can ship you a board in a box. Here's what the shop adds.
Proper board fitting
Volume and outline matched to your weight, experience and the breaks you actually paddle — not a spec sheet guess.
Paddles cut in the shop
Fixed paddles are trimmed to your height and stance while you wait, at no charge.
Demo before you commit
Rent the board you're considering. 70% of the demo rental comes off a new board purchase, up to $100.
Advice afterwards
Fin setups, ding repair referrals, travel bags, where to paddle on a north swell — call any time.

Steve Boehne's Infinity boards are shaped down the road in Dana Point; Jimmy Lewis shapes in Maui; Starboard and NSP cover the range from first board to race hull. Black Project and QuickBlade make the blades we paddle ourselves.

The reviews we're proudest of
"Answered all the novice questions in detail, with none of the condescension you get at a normal surf shop."
"Rented a board for a race and ended up talking about the race longer than the race itself took. Knowledgeable staff who are athletes and fans of the sport."
"Great shop, even better customer service. Nice selection of gear, and people who want to get you into the right kit."
