What's working at Ponto this week
August 31, 2026 · 2 min read · Paddle Planet
Small, clean, and long-period south swell in the mornings. The short wide shapes are the call — and the tide window matters more than the swell size.
A quick read on the week, written from the sand rather than a forecast model.
The swell
Long-period south is filling in through midweek, small but organized, with the best shape before the onshore comes up around 11am. Head-high sets are unlikely; waist-to-chest and glassy is the realistic best case, which in SUP terms is a very good week.
Tide window
Ponto is fussy about tide. On this swell direction the bank works best on the push off a low, roughly two hours either side. Dead high goes fat and shorebreaky, and dead low closes out the inside.
What we'd grab
Something short and wide with volume. The Infinity Escape Pod at 7'6" or the Starboard Spice at 7'11" are both right at home in this. If you're still building confidence, the Whopper will catch three times as many waves and you'll surf better on it than on something you're fighting.
Paddle-wise, drop an inch or two off your cruising length if you're on an adjustable. It'll feel better on the take-off.
If it goes flat
The bay is glassy in the mornings, which makes it a good week for an e-foil session or a fitness paddle. Call the shop and we'll tell you honestly whether it's worth the drive.
